Design and fit-out of a shell apartment in Clerkenwell for client with a passion for contemporary art. Space to be converted into live/work environment suitable for changing display of art. Client had an unerring eye for detail coupled with strong personal vision, which required closely involved collaboration from outset. A need to maximise storage was a high priority.
Minimal shapes and hard-edged white space with some softer lines was achieved through creation of bespoke furniture, both fitted and freestanding. A sleek polished look came from consistent use of white lacquered MDF surfaces throughout. Key feature of main space was white leatherette banquette, which incorporates a light-box for display of transparencies. While the need to maximise storage was a high priority, there was an equal need to maintain clean lines. The main storage area was a concealed walk-in space with double point access, the doors benefiting from pin hinges and push-mechanics catches. back |
