JENNY SAVILLE: ‘Oxyrhynchus’ solo exhibition at Gagosian, 13 June–26 July 2014

Last week, Gagosian opened the first-ever solo exhibition of Jenny Saville’s paintings in their London gallery. Darbyshire undertook the fabrication of bespoke stretchers for these works, along with carefully packing, then stretching the paintings. The finished works were then displayed in powder-coated aluminium frames.

Captivated by the endless aesthetic and formal possibilities of the materiality of the human body, Saville makes a highly sensuous and tactile impression of surface and mass in her monumental oil paintings. Subjects are imbued with a sculptural yet elusive dimensionality that verges on the
abstract.
