Darbyshire was asked by Museum 52 to frame a series of finely cut paper pieces by Tom Gallant. Gallant employes the Eastern tradition of kirigami, and produces works, which are both intricate and multilayered. Inspired by the novel, The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman it was required that the frames allow the gallery walls to be revealed. The frames were also to contain multiple transparent layers and veil the visibility of any attaching mechanism within.
Working with Tom Gallant, Darbyshire prepared a unique moulding with matching fillets that contain multiple sheets of glazing. The frames beautifully suspend these complex works, while allowing the wall behind to be seen. back |
