Darbyshire was asked to produce a series of individual frames to display a range of Vivienne Westwood's landmark pieces, to enhance their ornate beauty. In addition to showcasing these well-manicured classic designs, the frames were required to compliment the store's eclectic mix of immaculate elegance and lavish beauty.
We produced a range of bespoke box frames accenting specific elements of the fine tailoring through the judicious use of gilding and precise finish. Each frame was individually designed taking its lead from the garment's rich embroidery, opulent fabric and fine detailing. Some frames took on a sculptured quality, rich, dark, gilded and grand, whilst other pieces required a lightness of touch, paired down boxes with hand curved edges and subtle paint finishes, demonstrating Darbyshire's ability to marry the material qualities of the frame to the exhibit. Each frame was designed to maximize the potential of each garment and hold up in their rich theatrical surroundings.
