Working across disciplines Zaha Hadid challenges the boundaries of architecture and urban design. Hadid’s ‘Silver Paintings’ at Kenny Schachter Rove Gallery are painted on aluminium supports affording them a polished, mirror-like quality, which is enhanced further by the use of translucent and reflective painting mediums. The material quality of the aluminium gives the work a physical presence and weight; a sensation encouraged by the suspension of some of the paintings from the ceiling.
For Hadid’s exhibition Darbyshire made a series of aluminium, welded frames, which had to be specially designed and made using aluminium vee blocks strong enough to allow them to be suspended on tension wires. back |
