Creative Solutions
Utilising our understanding of materials and the skills at our disposal we are able to offer practical solutions to realise creative ideas and concepts.
We employ a range of materials from wood to metal, glass and corian, always carefully designed to marry form and function. We can design and fabricate bespoke book shelves, tables and art storage using a wide array of materials.
We liaise with clients to offer a design and build service for both office
and domestic furniture. Effective consultations will lead to you choosing the correct materials for your project.
As much consultation as required can be provided in our workshops and studios. We believe direct collaboration is the key to achieving excellent results.
Illuminating
Darbyshire custom made LED light panels and light boxes, creating a stunning display with your artwork, we can guide you through the process from initial transparency production through to full production and testing of exhibition ready light boxes. Our light boxes are hand-finished, all being made to our clients unique specifications, however big or small the artwork.
With the use of aluminium, steel, wood and using sheet lights rather than tubes, we are creating new possibilities for light box, size, weight and design. Our LED’s do not produce any glare, this allows the intended visual impact of the artwork to shine through.
We offer LED back lighting to duratrans, duraclear, lenticular and individual display cases.
Clearly Brilliant
We have produced protective acrylic boxes for a variety of three dimensional work by artists such as Rachael Whiteread, Antony Caro, Damien Hirst and Jake and Dinos Chapman. In cases where clients demand more dynamic shapes to encase their artworks, we can produce curved acrylic boxes with seam free joints, to suit the desired effect.
Artworks can be supported on a range of plinths and sub frames, constructed using a variety of materials and finishes.
With the wide range of coloured acrylics and finishes available a multitude of aesthetic possibilities can be achieved for your display project.
Stretchers
Darbyshire fabricate high quality stretchers for artists and conservators, made from kiln dried timbers such as Lime and Douglas fir which are very resilient to warping and losing shape. Stretchers can be made from a wide choice of canvas or linen stretched to a clients’ specification at our workshop and finished with a range of priming options including acrylic size and gesso, rabbit skin glue, and oil primers and grounds.
Traditional wedged corners, or mechanical toggle and bolt systems can be manufactured to a broad range of custom dimensions including curves or geometric shapes.
Choose from a comprehensive catalogue of fabrics which can be stretched and primed to your specification.
Panels and Strainers
If you require a rigid support we can fabricate panels at any size, depth and specification. We often work with clients who require irregular shapes, and curvilinear designs.
Plinths and Displays
Darbyshire have a wealth of knowledge and experience in creating custom built plinths and displays, our consultants will work with you to create high quality, bespoke designed gallery solutions. We frequently respond to demand for more complex constructions, incorporating materials from across the board. We have over 20 years of experience designing and fabricating for a diverse range of clients, always delivering immaculate results.
Subtle details can be used to create a contemporary look such as a shadow gap, to defuse light between the floor and the plinth. An LED illuminated plinth creates a neutral and perfectly even light source, a unique method of lighting your subject, and creating impact in the gallery.

Crates and Travel Frames
We offer a complete, bespoke packing service for the transportation of Fine Art and sensitive materials. We have international ISPM15 accreditation, to ensure all our crates are heat treated and will comply with the UK's international trading partner's implemented landing regulations for wood packaging material. We work side by side with
Darbyshire Logistics, resulting in a highly informed and smooth running operation.

Metal
We fabricate using aluminium, mild and stainless steel and brass, which is cut, welded and finished with expert care and precision. A range of finishes can then be applied to the completed frames from powder coating and polishing to chemical patinas and distressing. With the versatility of finish available and inherent strength metal has proved itself to be a useful and exciting choice for contemporary framing.
